Bernedoodle

Bernedoodle Puppies Dog Breed Information

The Bernedoodle is a charming hybrid breed resulting from the cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle. These large, fluffy dogs are adored for their non-shedding coats and affectionate personalities, making them a wonderful choice for any family. While the Bernedoodle is not acknowledged by the American Kennel Club, it receives recognition from various other reputable dog registries, including the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Breed Registry, Designer Dogs Kennel Club, and others.

With affectionate parent breeds, Bernedoodles inherit loving personalities and gentle dispositions. Properly socialized, they become open and friendly dogs, getting along well with everyone. Bernedoodles are typically excellent companions for children, other dogs, and pets. While they may be cautious initially, they quickly warm up to strangers once introduced, displaying their amiable nature.

Bernedoodles are incredibly adaptable dogs, flourishing in homes with yards for ample running space. Despite their size and energy, they can adapt to apartment living provided they receive sufficient daily exercise and attention. Bernedoodles generally tolerate cold weather better than heat, often reluctant to come indoors after playing in the snow. Due to their strong bond with family members, they dislike prolonged periods of solitude and thrive on being in their presence.

The Bernedoodle should be a generally healthy dog, as long as proper attention has been paid to the health of the parents. The Bernese is known for having some health issues in regard to their joints (hips, elbows, etc). The most common health problem for the Standard Poodle is Addison’s Disease, or chronic adrenal insufficiency.

Bernedoodles are intelligent and trainable, suitable for owners of any experience level. They quickly learn commands but may exhibit puppy stubbornness. Patient, calm, and positive reinforcement-based training is essential. While they typically outgrow stubbornness, early puppy training classes aid in socialization and training.

Bernedoodles typically have longer coats ranging from curly to wavy, requiring regular maintenance. Daily brushing prevents mats and tangles, with grooming sessions recommended every 6-8 weeks to maintain coat health. In addition to coat care, nail, ear, and dental hygiene are crucial for Standard Bernedoodles. Monthly nail trims prevent overgrowth, while weekly ear checks and cleanings prevent infections. Daily dental care, including brushing and vet cleanings as needed, promotes oral health and prevents dental diseases throughout your Bernedoodle’s life.

Standard Bernedoodles generally exhibit moderate to high energy levels, with bursts of higher energy during play. While not classified as high-energy dogs, they engage energetically in play until tired. Daily walks, playtime, and some running typically meet their exercise needs, but they are likely to enjoy additional activities if provided. Bernedoodles appreciate the opportunity to be active with their owners and thrive on engaging in various activities.

A fully-grown Standard Bernedoodle typically stands 22 to 29 inches tall and weighs between 50 to 90 pounds.

On average, Standard Bernedoodles typically have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
